A Matinee at the Opera
Opera is the ultimate art form. It combines music, storytelling, costumes, sets, and dance. It’s capable of expressing both the grandest emotions and the most intimate of feelings. It’s also probably the most fraught of art forms. In many cases, the plots are convoluted and chock full of misapprehensions, feuds, star-crossed lovers, murders, suicides, and all manner of mayhem (comic or otherwise). What better way to spend a chilly fall afternoon than to open up a deluxe sampler of all that right inside the cozy comfort of a concert hall?
A Matinee at the Opera will be a presentation of opera choruses and scenes from over the past 350 years including works by:
- Henry Purcell
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
- Giuseppe Verdi
- Giacomo Puccini
- Richard Wagner
- Richard Strauss
- Gilbert & Sullivan
- Johann Strauss II
