The Lalas divided number 18 into four parts. Only the men and soloists sing in the first two; the ladies can skip to part 3. This first section, for the Captain, Dick Deadeye, Josephine, Ralph, and the tenors and basses, goes from measure 1 to 59. Several of the choral sections are in unison, but the tenor and bass sections divide in measures 36 to 43, which they sing with Joe, Ralph, Dick, and the Captain.
