Berger: Brazilian Psalm

September 27, 2017 / lalacapellmeister / Recordings for Practice
3

In these practice versions, the tempi are very simple-minded. Initially the tempo is molto largo, which I took to be 60. The section beginning with the tenor solo goes to 50, and then it goes back to 60 until the end of the first section. From then on, it’s moderato. All parts are divided, and some of the divided parts have double notes. I have tried to reflect the dynamics as written, but there’s a technical glitch in the last phrase which will make it louder than it should be.

There are a lot of notes, here, some of which are wrong. If you hear one, please email me the part and the approximate time it occurs. A message stating “there are wrong notes” will elicit hysterical laughter from the lala singers, but nothing else.

    Hi John,

Please review the second soprano part as it does not appear to be correct.
    Thank you. Karen Pritchard

The problem is that as written, the sopranos have three parts. In my first version, I just gave the two top notes to the first sopranos. I didn’t like the result, because the program indicated that the sound level of the soprano part went sky high. In rehearsal last week, Jerry seemed (to me) to indicate that the where there were three notes in the soprano part, the bottom one should go to the altos. That, I tried to do in a revised version, but because dear old Berger just stuck triples in when he felt like it, I may have missed a couple.

So. First, please confirm that I heard correctly. If not, what should I do? And please, no offense taken, not on this stuff, not ever. It’s always a work in progress!
